The Chinese use two birds to describe people—pheasants and phoenixes. Some golden pheasants are extremely beautiful if you have seen them, and when they fly, they look exactly like the phoenixes you see in Chinese paintings. However, the Chinese regard a pheasant as a rustic hillbilly bird, but a phoenix a divine bird. They may look similar, but their lives are heaven and earth apart.
